The tolerance of triticale (x Triticosecale Wittmack) cultivars to aluminum (Al) stress observed in acid soils is an important agronomic trait affecting seed yield. Traditionally, breeding of Al-tolerant cultivars was selection based; for example, using a physiological test. However, such selection methods are relatively slow and require numerous plants for phenotype evaluation.
