The mechanism of disease progression in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is still unclear. Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), a diagnostic hallmark of HT, is principally of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) isotype, and it appears to be a response to thyroid injury.
