We examined the monoaminergic innervation of the rat cochlear nucleus (CN) and the inferior colliculus (IC) by using retrograde transport of the fluorescent dye Fluoro-Gold combined with immunohistochemistry. We used antisera against the catecholamine synthesizing enzymes tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DBH) and phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT), and one against the transmitter serotonin (5-HT).
