The distribution and dynamics of the 4 nematocyte populations of Hydra attenuata were investigated. Ninety-seven per cent of all nematocytes, including all 4 types, are mounted in the battery cells of the tentacles. The remaining 3%, including 2 types (stenoteles and holotrichous isorhizas) are mounted in the ectoderm of the body column.
