IEEE 802.11 is the most important standard for wireless local area networks (WLANS). This paper presents a performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) in a multi-rate WLAN. We studied how throughput and delay varies with the distance of transmission in a multi-rate WLAN and the result was used to compare that of single rate WLAN.
