Objetive. To determine the effect of fishing on capture size of both male and female Zungaro zungaro catfish, historical records of size and spatial distribution of the species were analyzed from the Orinoco Basin in Colombian. Materials and methods. Information was collected by sampling fishing port landings in the region between 1979 and 2011. Each specimen was measured, weighed and sexed. With 5411 records, the average size at capture were compared in time and among the different ports. Size…

Radiotelemetry of a female jaú, Zungaro jahu (Ihering, 1898) (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae), passed upstream of Funil Dam, rio Grande, Brazil
The conclusion from the study was that the passed adult female jau used reservoir habitats, migrated between the main body and the reservoir-river transition zone, preferred deep habitats, showed a relatively short home range, and had diurnal and nocturnal activities.
Peces de la estrella fluvial inírida: ríos Guaviare, Inírida, Atabapo y Orinoco (Orinoquía colombiana)
The Inirida Fluvial Star represents the higher species richness in the Orinoco River Basin and 335 species have commercial value as ornamentals, and 132 are harvested for food.
Molecular differentiation of species of the genus Zungaro (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) from the Amazon and Paraná-Paraguay River basins in Brazil.
It is concluded that Zungaro species of the Paraná-Paraguay River basin do not belong to the same species found in the Amazon basin, which has a significant implication for conservation of this fish.
Dinâmica populacional de quatro espécies de grandes bagres na bacia do rio Cuiabá, Pantanal norte, Brasil (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae)
The analysis of the mortality indicates that the fishing is a source of mortality more important for the Barbado than for the other species.
Fisheries-induced adaptive change in reproductive investment in North Sea plaice (Pleuronectes platessa)?
Fecundity and ovary-weight data from previous studies tentatively suggest that an increase in reproductive investment occurred between the late 1940s and the 1960s, consistent with a fisheries-induced evolutionary change.
Dams and the fish fauna of the Neotropical region: impacts and management related to diversity and fisheries
Reservoirs have been built in almost all of the hydrographic basins of Brazil. Their purposes include water supply for cities, irrigation and mainly, generation of electricity. There are more than
Evidence for harvest-induced maternal influences on the reproductive rates of fish populations
Results from a simple population model and a meta-analysis of time-series data from 25 species of exploited marine fishes suggest that a population of older, larger individuals has a higher maximum reproductive rate than an equivalent population of younger, smaller individuals, and that this difference increases with the reproductive lifespan of the population.
Reproductive ecology of Brazilian freshwater fishes
It is concluded that spawning in large rivers is a better predictor of bionomic characters than spawning in lentic habitats, and lotic fishes are specialists compared to lentic fishes.
Parámetros poblacionales de los principales recursos pesqueros de la cuenca del río Apure, Venezuela (2000-2003)
Population parameters, performance index ( ∅ ) and exploitation rates (E = F/Z), of the 14 most important commercial fish species, in the Apure River, were e...
