Based on the knowledge of the QCD radiation pattern, observables to distinguish jets containing one and two b hadrons are discussed. A simple method is used to combine pairs of the most sensitive observables—girth, number of charged tracks and the energy or momentum fraction of the leading b hadron with respect to the jet—into one discriminator. Their efficiencies, on the particle level, are estimated and found to improve the performance and the robustness of the observables in different…

Quark-gluon discrimination in the search for gluino pair production at the LHC
A bstractWe study the impact of including quark- and gluon-initiated jet discrimination in the search for strongly interacting supersymmetric particles at the LHC. Taking the example of gluino pair
Diphoton excess at 750 GeV: gluon–gluon fusion or quark–antiquark annihilation?
Recently, ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported an excess in the measurement of diphoton events, which can be explained by a new resonance with a mass around 750 GeV. In this work, we explored the
Top-Tagging at the Energy Frontier
At proposed future hadron colliders and in the coming years at the LHC, top quarks will be produced at genuinely multi-TeV energies. Top-tagging at such high energies forces us to confront several
Tau-jet signatures of vectorlike quark decays to heavy charged and neutral Higgs bosons
We study 4b+ 2τ and 4b+ 1τ signatures of heavy neutral and charged Higgs bosons originating from cascade decays of pair-produced new quarks. Decays of vectorlike quarks through heavy Higgses can
Revisiting the tt¯hh channel at the FCC-hh
The exploration of the scalar sector of the Standard Model is at the core of current and future science programs at collider experiments, with increasing focus on the self-interaction of the Higgs
Signals with six bottom quarks for charged and neutral Higgs bosons
In extensions of two Higgs doublet models with vectorlike quarks, the decays of vectorlike quarks may easily be dominated by cascade decays through charged or neutral Higgs bosons leading to
Mono-top Signature from Supersymmetric $t \bar t H$ Channel
We point out that a distinctive monotop signature is present in natural supersymmetry scenarios when a scalar top quark and Higgsinos are almost mass degenerate. This signature originates from a

Identification of b-quark jets with the CMS experiment
At the Large Hadron Collider, the identification of jets originating from b quarks is important for searches for new physics and for measurements of standard model processes. A variety of algorithms
Quark and gluon tagging at the LHC.
An exhaustive search of existing and novel jet substructure observables is found that a multivariate approach can filter out over 95% of the gluon jets while keeping more than half of the light-quark jets.
Production rates of bb¯ quark pairs from gluons and bb¯bb¯ events in hadronic Z0 decays
The rates are measured per hadronic Z0 decay for gluon splitting to bb¯ quark pairs, gbb¯, and of events containing two bb¯ quark pairs, g4b, using a sample of four-jet events selected from data
Quark and gluon jet substructure
A bstractDistinguishing quark-initiated jets from gluon-initiated jets has the potential to significantly improve the reach of many beyond-the-standard model searches at the Large Hadron Collider and
NLO QCD corrections to pp ---> t anti-t b anti-b + X at the LHC
We report on the calculation of the full next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (ttbb) final states at the LHC, which deliver a serious background
NLO QCD corrections to t anti-t b anti-b production at the LHC
The next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (tTbB) production at the LHC reveal that the scale choice adopted in previous lowest-order simulations
