Early embryonic and late fetal mouse myogenic cells showed distinct patterns of perinatal myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoform expression upon differentiation in vitro. In cultures of somite or limb muscle cells isolated from Day 9 to Day 12 embryos, differentiated cells that expressed perinatal MHC were rare and perinatal MHC was not detectable by immunoblotting.
