The proteoglycan aggregate is the major structural component of the cartilage matrix, comprising hyaluronan (HA), link protein (LP), and a large chondroitin sulfate (CS) proteoglycan, aggrecan. Here, we found that another member of aggrecan family, versican, biochemically binds to both HA and LP.
