Epithelial Cl− secretion plays important roles in water secretion preventing bacterial/viral infection and regulation of body fluid. We previously suggested that quercetin would be a useful compound for maintaining epithelial Cl− secretion at a moderate level irrespective of cAMP-induced stimulation. However, we need a compound that stimulates epithelial Cl− secretion even under cAMP-stimulated conditions, since in some cases epithelial Cl− secretion is not large enough even under cAMP…

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences
  • 2017
TLDR
The molecular mechanism by which flavonoids, specifically quercetin, act through elevation of [Cl–]c via activation of NKCC1 on important factors controlling various body and cellular functions is introduced.
Simulation of Cl− Secretion in Epithelial Tissues: New Methodology Estimating Activity of Electro-Neutral Cl− Transporter
TLDR
This study simulates transcellular Cl− secretion using mathematical models combined with electrophysiological measurements, providing information on contribution of Cl− channels/transporters to transcells secretion, activity of electro-neutral ion transporters and how Cl− channel/transportters are regulated.
Actions of Quercetin, a Polyphenol, on Blood Pressure
TLDR
Novel, unique mechanisms of quercetin’s anti-hypertensive action via activation of NKCC1 are introduced in detail.
HSP90 Modulates T2R Bitter Taste Receptor Nitric Oxide Production and Innate Immune Responses in Human Airway Epithelial Cells and Macrophages
TLDR
This study demonstrates that HSP90 serves as an innate immune modulator by regulating NO production downstream of T2R signaling by augmenting eNOS activation without impairing upstream Ca2+ signaling.
Analysis of Aprotinin, a Protease Inhibitor, Action on the Trafficking of Epithelial Na+ Channels (ENaC) in Renal Epithelial Cells Using a Mathematical Model
TLDR
The most interesting result of the present study is that cleavage ofENaC affects the intracellular ENaC trafficking rate and determines the residency time of ENac, indicating that more active cleaved ENaCs stay longer at the apical membrane contributing to transcellular Na+ transport via an increase in recycling of EN aC to the apicals membrane.
Action of Protein Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors on the Hypotonicity-Stimulated Trafficking Kinetics of Epithelial Na+ Channels (ENaC) in Renal Epithelial Cells: Analysis Using a Mathematical Model
TLDR
The present study indicates that application of EGFR and PDGFR-inhibitable PTKIs reduced the insertion rate, recycling rate, and the recycling rate of ENaCs, but increased degradation rate in renal A6 epithelial cells under a hypotonic condition.
Regulation of Cl- Electrolyte Permeability in Epithelia by Active Traditional Chinese Medicine.
TLDR
The crosstalk between Clelectrolyte transport and active traditional Chinese medicine monomers may lead to the development of new strategies for diarrhea by manipulating the function and expression of ion channels.
Cytosolic Cl- Affects the Anticancer Activity of Paclitaxel in the Gastric Cancer Cell Line, MKN28 Cell
TLDR
The results strongly suggest that the upregulation of cytosolic Cl- concentration would enhance the antitumor effect of PTX, and that the cytosol Cl- would be one of the key targets for anti-cancer therapy.

  • 2017
TLDR
The roles of CFTR in epithelial cells, its regulatory role in insulin secretion, and a mechanism ofCFTR regulation by insulin are reviewed.
Myricetin: A comprehensive review on its biological potentials
TLDR
Health benefits of myricetin are related to its impact on different cell processes, such as apoptosis, glycolysis, cell cycle, energy balance, lipid level, serum protein concentrations, and osteoclastogenesis.
