We present a measurement study on compositions of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) protocols, which aim to disrupt traditional finance and offer services on top of distributed ledgers, such as Ethereum. Understanding DeFi compositions is of great importance, as they may impact the development of ecosystem interoperability, are increasingly integrated with web technologies, and may introduce risks through complexity. Starting from a dataset of 23 labeled DeFi protocols and 10,663,881 associated…

DeFi Lending During The Merge

Lending protocols in decentralized finance enable the permissionless exchange of capital from lenders to borrowers without relying on a trusted third party for clearing or market-making. Interest

DeFi That Defies: Imported Off-Chain Metrics and Pseudonymous On-Chain Activity

This work focuses on customized methods that balance the degree of disclosure of provably-sourced user information against the likelihood of the user successfully gaining access to a desired resource, such as a loan under suitable terms.

Liquidity Risks in Lending Protocols (LPs): Evidence from Aave Protocol

Analysis of stablecoin loans in Aave protocol finds both supply share and demand share of dual-role users can positively influence loan-specific factors and DAI liquidity will increase, implying safer status of DAI pool and better liquidity efficiency.

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Projects: A Study of Key Performance Indicators in Terms of DeFi Protocols’ Valuations

Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols use blockchain-based tools to mimic banking, investment and trading solutions and provide a viable framework that creates incentives and conditions for the

Formal Analysis of Composable DeFi Protocols

A formal process-algebraic technique that models DeFi protocols in a compositional manner to allow for efficient property verification and how the proposed modeling and verification approach can be used to analyze financial and security properties of interest is proposed.

SoK: Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

A distinction between technical security and economic security is provided, connecting the latter with new models and thereby synthesizing insights from computer science, econom-ics and finance, and the open research challenges in the ecosystem across these security types are outlined.

Liquidations: DeFi on a Knife-Edge

This paper presents the first in-depth empirical analysis of liquidations on protocols for loanable funds (PLFs), and finds that liquidators' efficiency has improved significantly over time, with currently over 70% of liquidable positions being immediately liquidated.

A comprehensive measurement study of DeFi price oracles deployed in practice finds that prices reported by oracles regularly deviate from current exchange rates, oracles are not free from operational issues, and their reports include anomalies.

Measuring Asset Composability as a Proxy for DeFi Integration

Decentralized financial (DeFi) applications on the Ethereum blockchain are highly interoperable because they share a single state in a deterministic computational environment. Stakeholders can

Understanding Ethereum via Graph Analysis

This paper designs a new approach to collect all transaction data, constructs three graphs from the data to characterize major activities on Ethereum, and proposes new approaches based on cross-graph analysis to address two security issues in Ethereum.

The Decentralized Financial Crisis

This paper explores how design weaknesses and price fluctuations in DeFi protocols could lead to a DeFi crisis, and develops a stress-testing framework for a stylized DeFi lending protocol, focusing on the impact of a drying-up of liquidity on protocol solvency.

Measurements, Analyses, and Insights on the Entire Ethereum Blockchain Network

An in-depth study of the interaction networks of the Ethereum blockchain based on several graph properties consisting of both local and global properties, which discusses their similarities and differences with social networks and the Web, draw interesting conclusions, and highlight important, future research directions.

Measuring Ethereum-Based ERC20 Token Networks

Results show that even though the entire network of token transfers has been claimed to follow a power-law in its degree distribution, many individual token networks do not: they are frequently dominated by a single hub and spoke pattern.

Temporal Analysis of the Entire Ethereum Blockchain Network

This paper studies the growth rate and model of four Ethereum blockchain networks, active lifespan and update rate of high-degree vertices, and forecast the survival of network communities in succeeding months leveraging on the relevant graph features and machine learning models.
