The concept of chirality is extended to the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the {mu}-term is forbidden by a gauged U(1){sup '} symmetry. R-parity automatically emerges after symmetry breaking, suppressing proton decay and protecting the lightest supersymmetric particle.
