The heparin disaccharides detected in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) gills and intestines have, with one exception, been reported in porcine heparin. The relative amounts of disaccharides appear to be very different in the two species. Two chondroitin disaccharides with a proposed essential role in the zebrafish (Danio rerio) development and differentiation are detected in farmed Atlantic salmon. In addition, most of the chondroitin/dermatan sulfate and heparin disaccharides detected here… Expand
Purification and sequence characterization of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate from fishes
Size, structural sequences and sulfate groups of oligosaccharides in the purified CS and DS could be characterized and identified using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with Orbitrap mass spectrometry and results showed thatCS and DS samples could be differentiated according to their molecular conformation and oligOSaccharide fragments information. Heparin Increases Food Intake through AgRP Neurons
The results support a model whereby heparin competes with insulin for insulin receptor binding on AgRP neurons, and by doing so it inhibits FoxO1 activity to promote AgRP release and feeding. Expand
Myocardial Infarction with Limb Arterial and Venous Thrombosis in a Patient with Enoxaparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia
The case of a 67-year-old woman who developed ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and thrombocytopenia within 10 days of prophylactic enoxaparin therapy after undergoing bilateral total knee replacement surgery demonstrates that early recognition and prompt treatment of HIT can be life-saving. Isolation and structural characterization of chondroitin sulfate from bony fishes.
Chondroitin sulfate (CS) was purified from the bones of common fishes, monkfish, cod, spiny dogfish, salmon and tuna, and characterized in an effort to find alternative sources and new peculiarExpand
Structural characterization of glycosaminoglycans from zebrafish in different ages
GAGs were isolated and purified from zebrafish in different stages in development ranging from 0.5 days to adult and the content and disaccharide composition of chondroitin sulfate and heparan sulfate were determined using chemical assays, liquid chromotography and mass spectrometry. Expand
Purification, characterization and in vivo studies of salmon heparin.
Results indicate that in vivo half-life time of salmon heparin was higher than that of dalteparin, and NMR-analysis detected N- and O-sulfated oligosaccharides essential forHeparin activity. Expand

The objective of this report is to present the anticoagulant motifs of the marine SFs, SGs and GAGs, which do not bear within their polymeric chains the specific pentasaccharide motif of heparin. Expand
Evolutionary Differences in Glycosaminoglycan Fine Structure Detected by Quantitative Glycan Reductive Isotope Labeling*
This new method provides more robust, reliable, and sensitive means of quantitative evaluation of glycosaminoglycan disaccharide compositions than existing techniques allowing us to compare the chondroitin and heparan sulfate compositions of Hydra vulgaris, Drosophila melanogaster, Caenorhabditis elegans, and mammalian cells. Heparin-protein interactions.
This review focuses on aspects of heparin structure and conformation, which are important for its interactions with proteins, and describes the interaction ofheparin and heparan sulfate with selected families of heParin-binding proteins. Expand
Perspective on the Use of Sulfated Polysaccharides from Marine Organisms as a Source of New Antithrombotic Drugs
If these aspects are successfully addressed, sulfated polysaccharides from marine organisms may conquer the frontier of antithrombotic therapy and open new avenues for treatment or prevention of thromboembolic diseases. Expand
A Systems Biology Approach for the Investigation of the Heparin/Heparan Sulfate Interactome*
Investigating the functional and structural properties that characterize HS-interacting proteins and the network they form revealed that heparin/HS-binding proteins form a highly interconnected network that is functionally linked to physiological and pathological processes that are characteristic of higher organisms. The binding of pentapeptides to biological and synthetic high affinity heparin.
Pentapeptides showed an effect on in vitro heparin anti-factor X activity with a reduction of fondaparinux activity by 65-95% and was further studied by using peptide solid phase chromatography and NMR analysis. Expand
