It has been proposed that asymmetry in the inner ear underlies various manifestations of brain-behaviour asymmetry in the human. Specifically, Previc (1991) argued that an otolith imbalance manifests itself in an asymmetrical head posture, and later (1994) suggested that head tilt may be consonant with other measures of human laterality. The present study tested the reliability of head tilt across days and assessed its relationship with handedness, footedness, and eyedness. As in Previc's…
Asymmetrical representation of body orientation.
TLDR
An asymmetry of the PU was found to be best modeled by adding a leftward bias of 5.6° to the perceived orientation of the body relative to its actual orientation relative to the head, similar to the body-defined left-leaning asymmetry in the perceived direction of light coming from above.

TLDR
This review presents data on values and characters of otolith asymmetry (OA) in animals of various species and classes and on the effect of weightlessness and hypergravity on OA; the issue of theeffect of OA on vestibular and auditory functions also is considered.
Is Light in Pictures Presumed to Come from the Left Side?
TLDR
In both studies 1 and 2 there was a highly significant association between the direction of spontaneous head tilt and preferred direction of illumination, and this factor has not previously been taken into account in studies of the phenomenon.
The assumed light source direction : evidence from different populations
The experiments in this thesis measured light source biases in different populations to investigate why observers assume that light originates from above and to the left. All the experiments use the
Use of Commercial Virtual Reality Technology to Assess Verticality Perception in Static and Dynamic Visual Backgrounds
TLDR
This study provides initial proof of concept evidence that reliable SVV measures in static and dynamic visual backgrounds can be obtained using a low-cost commercial HMD system and suggests that this tool can distinguish individuals with dizziness symptomatology based on SVV performance in dynamicVisual backgrounds.
A Methodology for Detecting Pilot Fatigue and Head Tilt Measured Using Flight Simulation of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
The objective of this research project was to determine whether the human factors of fatigue and head tilt can be detected in real time by measuring the head motion of pilots flying simulated
Changes in blood flow velocity in the middle and anterior cerebral arteries evoked by walking
TLDR
Transcranial Doppler sonography is an established method for assessing changes in blood flow velocity coupled to brain activity and whether walking induces measurable changes in BFV in healthy subjects was investigated.

TLDR
The origins of cerebral lateralization in humans are traced to the asymmetric prenatal development of the ear and labyrinth, whereas the failure to develop clear vestibular asymmetry may underlie the poor motoric lateralization found in several neurodevelopmental disorders.

TLDR
The recognition of an otolithic disorder and understanding otolithic involvement in a wider neurological context may be guided by knowledge of otolith physiology and of the characteristics of the few proven otolithic syndromes.
Earedness (ear choice in monaural tasks): its measurement and relationship to other lateral preferences.
TLDR
Ear preference was strongly influenced by seemingly minor environmental asymmetries and did not influence telephone habits, and must be considered a very weak lateral preference.
Vestibular compensation: a review of the oculomotor, neural, and clinical consequences of unilateral vestibular loss.
TLDR
Detailed examination shows that vestibular compensation is not a single process that recovers completely at a rapid rate but is made up of a number of subprocesses that recover to different levels and at different rates.
Inverted and noninverted lefthanders compared on the basis of motor performance and measures related to the act of writing
Pen angles, tilt of writing page, head tilt, slant of writing, mirror writing, laterality quotients and familial sinistrality of inverted and noninverted lefthanded writers were measured. Subjects
The validity and reliability of self‐report items for the measurement of lateral preference
TLDR
Self-report items for the measurement of eye, foot and ear preference were validated against individual behavioural measures to indicate that a questionnaire is a valid and reliable method for the assessment of various forms of lateral preference.
