The direct pituitary effects of estrogen and progesterone on the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were studied in ovariectomized (OVX) ewes in which the pituitary had been disconnected surgically from the hypothalamus (hypothalamo-pituitary disconnection, HPD).
