BACKGROUND Peritoneal matrix accumulation is characteristic of peritoneal fibrosis (PF). Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients who had persistent transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) in their drained effluent had an increased risk of PF.
