Sažetak: Kao i ostale zarazne bolesti, difterija predstavlja potencijalnu opasnost po čoveka. Kroz istoriju je opisivana kao smrtonosna bolest koja je ugrožavala, uglavnom, dečiju populaciju. Sa uvođenjem imunizacije, kao i savremenijim načinima lečenja, difterija je gotovo potpuno suzbijena. Ipak, postojanje pojedinačnih slučajeva oboljevanja u današnje vreme zahteva stalan oprez i praćenje bolesti kao i promptno reagovanje medicinskih službi.
