In this review, we summarized the potential role of synthetic organoseleno compounds as therapeutic or toxic agents, giving emphasis almost exclusively to diphenyl diselenide, the simplest of the diaryl diselenides, and some of its analogs. We presented the main molecular aspects related to the in vitro toxicity and pharmacology of diphenyl diselenide and also provided in vivo data indicating that the interaction of diphenyl diselenide with thiols can dictate either its toxicological or…

Synthesis and biological evaluation of new nitrogen-containing diselenides.
Selective synthesis of 3‐Selanylindoles from Indoles and Diselenides using IK/mCPBA system
TLDR
A convenient catalytic procedure is developed for the preparation of 3-selanylindoles from indoles and diselenides, which extends the synthetic application of KI in organic synthesis.
Iron(III) chloride/diorganyl diselenides: a tool for intramolecular cyclization of alkynone O-methyloximes.
TLDR
The reaction conditions tolerated neutral, electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups present in both substrates, alkynone O-methyloximes and diorganyl diselenides and allowed the cyclization to proceed at room temperature under ambient atmosphere.
Recent advances in the chemistry of vinylchalcogenides
GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Vinyl selenides, sulfides and tellurides surely represent important compounds in organic chemistry for their relatively easy accessibility and synthetic utility. More than
2,2′-Dipyridyl diselenide is a better antioxidant than other disubstituted diaryl diselenides
TLDR
2,2′-dipyridyl diselenide (e) had better in vitro antioxidant effect than otherdiselenides and lower inhibitory effect on δ-ALA-D activity, and the presence of pyridine ring is responsible for the best antioxidant effect of this compound.
Toxicology and pharmacology of synthetic organoselenium compounds: an update
TLDR
The outcomes of the clinical trials of ebselen as a mimetic of lithium or as an inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 proteases will be important to the field of organoselenium synthesis.
