Swelling of koala sperm chromatin following cryopreservation has largely been attributed to the absence of intermolecular disulfide cross-linkages in the marsupial sperm nucleus. Fish spermatozoa also lack disulfide bonds within their chromatin, but have been successfully cryopreserved.
