Fourier relations between antenna aperture distributions and their far fields are well known for coherent illumination. Less familiar are those for imaging incoherent sources. Such methods involve interferometry and are the basis for radio astronomy. Stated briefly, the radio star brightness distribution to be determined can be obtained from Fourier transforming measurements made of the complex visibility. The complex visibility is a measure of the complex correlation (or mutual coherence) of…

Noncoherent-object hologram: its reconstruction and optical processing
Encoding a complex-amplitude diffraction pattern on a photographic film by addirtg a suitably chosen coherent reference beam forms a conventional hologram. A hologram of a spatially noncoherent
Holographic reconstruction of aperture synthesis data
The strong parallels which exist between the two-step imaging techniques of holography and radio astronomy aperture synthesis suggest coherent optical reconstruction of radio data as an alternative
Comparison of Rectangular and Polar Quantizers in Digital Holography
Complex amplitude encoded in any digital hologram must undergo quantization, usually in either polar or rectangular format. In this paper these two schemes are compared under the constraints and
Optical Processing Architecture For Radiotelescope Data
Fourier transform post processing of radiotelescope visibility function data is reviewed with emphasis on basic data properties important to optical processing architecture.
