Diffracted fields from 100-nm aperture near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) probes and uncoated tapered fibres are measured and analysed. Using a solid angle scanner, the two-dimensional intensity distribution and polarization state of the diffracted light are resolved experimentally.
