Differentiation of pituicytes of the neurohypophysis and their response to whole-body irradiation

Abstract

Details are described of the differentiation of the pituicytes of the rat neurohypophysis and their response to whole-body 7 r a y irradiation~ Differentiation of the p[tuicytes is complete by the age of 2 weeks. Ionizing radiation induces the accumulation of lipid inclusions in the cytoplasm of the pituicytes and the formation of charac ter i s t ic cilia (with the formula 9 x 2 + 2) by the differentiating pituicytes.
