We have looked at the effects of calcitriol (1 alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) on the expression of the members of the fos and jun families of protooncogenes in an osteoblastic cell line and in primary cultures of osteoblasts. Calcitriol treatment of starved, confluent cultures of MC3T3-E1 cells induced a rapid and transient stimulation of the expression of c-fos, fos-B, c-jun, and jun-B with varying kinetics.
