Two myostatin (MSTN) isoforms were isolated from brook trout with 92% identity in corresponding regions at the nucleotide level. One isoform was isolated from muscle and brain and the second from ovarian tissue. To our knowledge this is the first time two MSTN isoforms have been isolated from a given vertebrate species.
