Immature rat thymocytes readily undergo apoptosis following exposure to many different stimuli, including agents which cause DNA damage, such as the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide and irradiation. We have shown previously that cells isolated from the immature rat thymus are resistant to the induction of apoptosis by the DNA-damaging agent cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cisplatin) (D. L.
