We perform the experimental demonstration of the method proposed in [Phys. Rev. A 91, 063615 (2015)] to extract the differential phase in dual atom interferometers. From a single magneto-optical trap, we generate two atomic sources, vertically separated and free-falling synchronously, with the help of an accelerated lattice. We drive simultaneous Raman interferometers onto the two sources, and use the correlation with the vibration signal measured by a seismometer to extract the phase of each…

Separating the output ports of a Bragg interferometer via velocity selective transport

We report on the study of a detection scheme based on a Bloch separator in two-photon Bragg interferometers. We increase the spatial separation between the two output ports of the interferometer by

A dual-magneto-optical-trap atom gravity gradiometer for determining the Newtonian gravitational constant.

The design of the G measurement by atom interferometry is detailed, the experimental setup of the atom gravity gradiometer is reported, and a preliminary sensitivity of 3 × 10-9 g/Hz to differential gravity acceleration is obtained.

Proof-of-principle demonstration of vertical-gravity-gradient measurement using a single-proof-mass double-loop atom interferometer

We demonstrate a proof-of-principle of direct Earth gravity-gradient measurement with an atom interferometer-based gravity gradiometer using a single proof mass of cold 87 Rb atoms. The atomic

A prototype industrial laser system for cold atom inertial sensing in space

We present the design, realization, characterization and testing of an industrial prototype of a laser system, which is based on frequency doubling of telecom lasers and features all key

Reduction of background scattered light in vacuum systems for cold atoms experiments

Recent advances in the understanding and control of cold atom systems have resulted in devices with extraordinary metrological performance. To further improve the performance in these systems,

Exploring the foundations of the physical universe with space tests of the equivalence principle

We present the scientific motivation for future space tests of the equivalence principle, and in particular the universality of free fall, at the 10− 17 level or better. Two possible mission

Simultaneous accurate determination of both gravity and its vertical gradient

We present a method for the accurate measurements of both the gravity acceleration and its vertical gradient using a dual atom interferometer, in principle free from any uncertainty related to the

Improving the accuracy of atom interferometers with ultracold sources

We report on the implementation of ultracold atoms as a source in a state of the art atom gravimeter. We perform gravity measurements with 10 nm s−2 statistical uncertainties in a so-far largely
