Flavonoids, polyphenolic compounds that exist widely in plants, inhibit cell proliferation and increase cell differentiation in many cancerous and noncancerous cell lines. Because terminal differentiation of preadipocytes to adipocytes depends on proliferation of both pre- and postconfluent preadipocytes, we predicted that flavonoids would inhibit adipogenesis in the 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cell line. The flavonoids genistein and naringenin inhibited proliferation of preconfluent preadipocytes in a…

Genistein suppresses adipogenesis of 3T3‐L1 cells via multiple signal pathways

The findings suggest that genistein attenuates the differentiation of 3T3‐L1 involving multiple signal pathways.

Effects of Genistein on Cell Proliferation and Adipogenesis in Mouse 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes

It was found that four phytochemicals (resveratrol, capsaicin, daidzein, and genistein), which are associated with anti-obesity and anti-inflammation activities, could increase sirtuin-1 expression and Genistein was the strongest inducer of sirtulin-1 among the tested phytochemistryicals.

Dietary flavonoids suppress adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes

The results suggest that dietary flavonoids suppress 3T3-L1 differentiation by down-regulating adipogenic transcription-factors, and the potential health benefits of catechin, quercetin and kaempferol in the control of body weight.

Genistein inhibits differentiation of primary human adipocytes.

Inhibition of Adipocyte Differentiation by MeOH Extract from Carduus crispus through ERK and p38 MAPK Pathways

It is suggested that methanol extract of C. crispus might be beneficial for the treatment of obesity by inhibiting adipogenic signal transcriptional factors in MDI-induced 3T3-L1 cells in a dose-dependent manner.

Vitisin A inhibits adipocyte differentiation through cell cycle arrest in 3T3-L1 cells.

Induction of cell apoptosis in 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes by flavonoids is associated with their antioxidant activity.

The results indicate that quercetin efficiently inhibits cell population growth and induction of apoptosis in 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes and had the highest ORAC(ROO) value among the six flavonoids tested.

Naringenin and hesperetin induce growth arrest, apoptosis, and cytoplasmic fat deposit in human preadipocytes.

The data suggest that apoptosis by flavanones does not inhibit the adipocytic conversion of AML-I preadipocyte cell line, and indicates that adipocyte may not be a direct target for the lipid-lowering activity of the flavanone.

Phytochemicals and regulation of the adipocyte life cycle.

Effect of some phytoestrogens on metabolism of rat adipocytes.

The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the direct effect of genistein, daidzein and zearalenone on basal and hormone-induced lipogenesis and lipolysis in isolated rat adipocytes. In lipogenesis,

Isoflavones inhibit intestinal epithelial cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in vitro

By reducing proliferation and inducing apoptosis, isoflavones may have a role in protecting normal intestinal epithelium from tumour development (reducing the risk) and may reduce colonic tumour growth.

Effects of flavonoids on cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase and lipid mobilization in rat adipocytes.

Quercetin selectively inhibits insulin receptor function in vitro and the bioresponses of insulin and insulinomimetic agents in rat adipocytes.

In intact rat adipocytes, quercetin inhibited insulin-stimulating effects on glucose transport, oxidation, and its incorporation into lipids, enabling us to evaluate which insulinomimetic agents are dependent on tyrosine phosphorylation of endogenous substrates for stimulating glucose metabolism.

Gsα Repression of Adipogenesis via Syk*

New insight is provided into the control of adipogenesis, suggesting that Gsα represses adipogenesis via Syk, which potentiates the ability of inducers to act as well as induces adipogenesis itself.

Genistein-Induced Changes in Lipid Metabolism of Ovariectomized Rats

Genistein in food can reduce the fattening processes in ovariectomized rats and may be attributed, at least in part, to its direct influence on lipid metabolism in the liver and adipose tissue.

Genistein delayed mammary tumor appearance in association with increased cell differentiation in mammary tissue in rats treated with 7, 12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene when administered neonatally, inhibited phorbol ester-induced H2O2 production in a model of skin cancer, and inhibited aberrant crypt formation in a models of colonic cancer.
