Cholecystokinin and its analogues such as cerulein, muscarinic cholinergic agonists, and gastrin-releasing peptide (bombesin) bind to distinct receptors on the surface of pancreatic acinar cells and stimulate digestive protein secretion by a calcium-dependent mechanism.
