The object of this study was to develop an assay for platelet activating factor (PAF) in rat plasma, and to utilise this to determine the effects of dietary fish oil on PAF in normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats. Measurement of platelet activating factor in blood plasma has proved difficult because of its rapid hydrolysis in vivo to lyso PAF.
