Introduction: Diet may influence various aspects of human health. In fact, it is well known that diet can favour or not the development of various human pathologies, like diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolaemia. Interestingly, diet has an influence in cancer development too (e.g., this relation has been studied for pancreatic, colonic, gastric, and breast cancers). Between the mechanisms that could explain this relation, there is epigenetic. In fact, thanks to epigenetic reprogramming…

Ketogenic Diet for Cancer: Critical Assessment and Research Recommendations
TLDR
Overall, although preclinical studies suggest that KD has antitumor effects, prolongs survival, and prevents cancer development, human clinical trials are equivocal and a set of research recommendations for clinical studies examining the effects of KD on cancer development and progression is proposed.
Ketogenic Diet in Cancer Prevention and Therapy: Molecular Targets and Therapeutic Opportunities.
TLDR
This review highlights the crucial mechanisms that explain the ketogenic diet's potential antitumor effects, which probably produces an unfavorable metabolic environment for cancer cells and can be used as a promising adjuvant in cancer therapy.
Beneficial Diets and Pancreatic Cancer: Molecular Mechanisms and Clinical Practice
TLDR
Three beneficial diets are reviewed: a ketogenic diet (KD), a Mediterranean diet (MD), and a low-sugar diet, which aimed to provide more help and new insights for the prevention and treatment of PC.
The effect of long-term ketogenic diet on serum adiponectin and insulin-like growth factor-1 levels in mice
TLDR
Long-term ketogenic diet increases serum adiponectin levels and has no effect on serum IGF-1 levels, and there was no significant correlation between serum adip onectin and serum IGF -1 levels.
Implementation of a Low-Carbohydrate Diet Improves the Quality of Life of Cancer Patients – An Online Survey
TLDR
The present study gathered information about how cancer patients go about implementing a KD or LC diet, what resources they rely on, whether they perceive benefits from the diet on quality of life (QoL), and what factors influence feasibility and adherence to the diet.
Using Dictyostelium to Advance Our Understanding of the Role of Medium Chain Fatty Acids in Health and Disease
TLDR
The newly proposed mechanisms for decanoic acid, identified using D. discoideum, are summarized, and potential roles in health and disease treatment are highlighted.
Association between Vitamin B12 and Risk of Gastric Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Epidemiological Studies.
TLDR
Although a systematic review and meta-analysis found no convincing evidence that vitamin B12 intake is associated with the risk of gastric cancer, it is important to maintain the relative stability of vitamin B 12 for people with Hp infection.
Cholesterol sensor SCAP contributes to sorafenib resistance by regulating autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma
TLDR
A clinically significant finding was that lycorine, a specific SCAP inhibitor, could reverse acquired resistance to sorafenib in vitro and in vivo.
Ramadan Fasting in Germany (17–18 h/Day): Effect on Cortisol and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Association With Mood and Body Composition Parameters
TLDR
It seems the benefits of RF for mood-related symptoms are mediated by different biological mediators, particularly cortisol and BDNF.
Ultra-minimally invasive surgery in gynecological patients: a review of the literature
TLDR
The UMIS approaches were feasible and safe even for complex gynecological procedures, and Operative times and complications were superimposable to the “classical” minimally invasive approaches reported in the literature.

Fasting vs dietary restriction in cellular protection and cancer treatment: from model organisms to patients
TLDR
Fasting has the potential to be translated into effective clinical interventions for the protection of patients and the improvement of therapeutic index and this study reviews the basic as well as clinical studies on fasting, cellular protection and chemotherapy resistance.
Ketogenic diet in cancer therapy
TLDR
The laboratory intensively studied the antitumor effect of KDs in combination with or without low-dose chemotherapy on neuroblastoma and found that the growth of neuroblastomas xenografts was significantly reduced by a KD consisting of a 2:1 ratio of fat to carbohydrate + protein when combined with caloric restriction, however, caloric restriction would be contraindicated in a range of cancer patients, particularly those with cachexia.
When less may be more: calorie restriction and response to cancer therapy
TLDR
Findings from preclinical studies of CR mimetic drugs and other dietary interventions, such as the ketogenic diet, are promising for improving the efficacy of anticancer therapies and reducing the side effects of cytotoxic treatments.
The Interaction between Epigenetics, Nutrition and the Development of Cancer
TLDR
The epigenotype could be used not only to predict susceptibility to certain cancers but also to assess the effectiveness of dietary modifications to reduce such risk.
Fasting Cycles Retard Growth of Tumors and Sensitize a Range of Cancer Cell Types to Chemotherapy
TLDR
It is suggested that multiple cycles of fasting promote differential stress sensitization in a wide range of tumors and could potentially replace or augment the efficacy of certain chemotherapy drugs in the treatment of various cancers.
The Role of Glucose Modulation and Dietary Supplementation in Patients With Central Nervous System Tumors
TLDR
Dietary and nondietary modulation of glucose homeostasis and the incorporation of dietary supplements and other natural substances are potentially important interventions to affect cancer cell growth, palliate symptoms, reduce treatment-associated side effects, and improve the quality of life in patients with cancer.
The Ketogenic Diet Is an Effective Adjuvant to Radiation Therapy for the Treatment of Malignant Glioma
TLDR
KC significantly enhances the anti-tumor effect of radiation and suggests that cellular metabolic alterations induced through KC may be useful as an adjuvant to the current standard of care for the treatment of human malignant gliomas.
Beneficial effects of ketogenic diets for cancer patients: a realist review with focus on evidence and confirmation
TLDR
The probability of achieving an anti-tumor effect seems greater than that of causing serious side effects when offering KDs to cancer patients, and a probabilistic argument shows that the available data strengthen the belief in the anti-disease effect hypothesis at least for some individuals.
Effects of a ketogenic diet on the quality of life in 16 patients with advanced cancer: A pilot trial
TLDR
Pilot data suggest that a ketogenic diet is suitable for even advanced cancer patients and has no severe side effects and might improve aspects of quality of life and blood parameters in some patients with advanced metastatic tumors.
