ObjectiveTuberculosis (TB) still remains the world’s endemic infection. TB affects the lungs and any part of the body other than the lung. The diagnosis of TB has not changed much over the decades. Ethambutol is one of the first line treatments for TB. It can be labeled using 99mTc. 99mTc-ethambutol will be accumulated in the site of TB lesion and can be imaged using gamma camera. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of 99mTc-ethambutol scintigraphy in detecting and…

99mTc-ethambutol scan with SPECT/CT in knee joint tuberculosis

A case demonstrating the role of 99mTc-ethambutol scan in knee joint TB is presented, with results showing sensitivity and specificity between 90%– 95% and 71%–85%.

Tuberculosis: Role of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging With Potential Impact of Neutrophil-Specific Tracers

It is the hope that further work with this tracer may accelerate its potential to be utilised in responding to many of the current diagnostic dilemmas and challenges in TB management, thereby making the tracer a translatable option in routine clinical care.

99mTc-Ethambutol Scintigraphy with Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computed Tomography in Vertebral Tuberculosis

This work presents a case of vertebral TB, where a technetium-labeled antitubercular drug, ethambutol, was synthesized and used for imaging the bacteria in vivo and demonstrates a rarely used potentially specific agent for tuberculous-infection imaging, which can be produced in-house, and provides rapid results.

Imaging Tuberculosis and AIDS Associated Infections

Evidence from preclinical studies is emerging to support the potential of mycobacterial-specific imaging using radiolabeled antimycob bacterial drugs and other probes that specifically target the tubercle bacilli for noninvasive imaging and for studying biokinetics of commonly used chemotherapy drugs in TB treatment.

False positive finding from malignancy-like lesions on FDG PET/CT: case report of tuberculosis patients

There is a high chance of misinterpreting asymptomatic tuberculosis patient as having malignancy by analyzing diagnostic imaging alone, so there is need for correlation with clinical data as well as other imaging modalities and PET/CT with more specific tracer in order to differentiate malignancies from benign disease such as tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis Infection Could Mimic Malignant Lymphoma In F-18 FDG PET: A Case Report

Tuberculosis should be one of the differential diagnoses when a lymphoma recurrent disease is suspected and demonstrated multiple hypermetabolic bilateral neck region, mediastinum, and bilateral axilla lymphadenopathies and a complete metabolic response.

Osteoarticular tuberculosis in children . A fast reappearing 18 disease diagnosed by F-FDG PET / CT and other modalities

A review of the correlative-imaging modalities and those of nuclear medicine for the diagnosis of OAT and its differential diagnosis from other diseases and insights regarding the strengths and limitations are provided.

It could be an acceleration for radiopharmaceutical chemists for designing and developing 99mTc‐labeled antimicrobial agents to improve infection imaging quality.

Erythema Induratum of Bazin Accompanied by Atrophy of the Subcutaneous Fat

Erythema induratum of Bazin must be considered in patient with erythematous-violaceous nodules on lower leg, especially in endemic areas of tuberculosis infection since diagnosis can be difficult and occasionally, deceptive.

Technetium-99m-tetrofosmin scintigraphy in pulmonary tuberculosis.

Investigation of the role of 99mTc-tetrofosmin scintigraphy in pulmonary tuberculosis in cases with active and inactive tuberculosis showed increased uptake in APTB lesions related to disease activity, which may have a complementary role in the assessment of APTB as well as in follow-up treatment.

Clinical evaluation of 99mTc-2IT-INH in normal subjects and patients with tubercular lesions.

The efficacy of 99m Tc-INH in humans with sensitive as well as resistant tuberculosis by conducting a phase I clinical trial was established and the biodistribution suggested absence of in vivo breakdown of radiotracer.

Use of 18F-FDG PET to Predict Response to First-Line Tuberculostatics in HIV-Associated Tuberculosis

A cutoff of 5 or more involved lymph node bastions allowed for separation of tuberculostatic responsive and nonresponsive tuberculosis-infected HIV patients with a sensitivity of 88, a specificity of 81%, and a negative predictive value of 93%.

Tc-99m Ciprofloxacin SPECT of Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Tc-99m ciprofloxacin SPECT is feasible for imaging active pulmonary tuberculosis and is a useful nuclear-imaging method for discriminating between the active and inactive tuberculosis states in patients with a past medical history of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Evaluation of the efficacy of 99mTc-Infecton, a novel agent for detecting sites of infection.

Infecton imaging is a new diagnostic tool that is specific for detecting sites of bacterial infection in the body and the high positive predictive value displayed by the technique is clinically important because a positive image strongly supports a diagnosis ofacterial infection.

Imaging bacterial infection with 99mTc-ciprofloxacin (Infecton)

Infecton is a sensitive technique, which aids in the earlier detection and treatment of a wide variety of deep seated bacterial infections and the ability to localise infective foci accurately is also important for surgical intervention, such as drainage of abscesses.
