A variety of laboratory tests are available to assist in the diagnosis of hazardous alcohol consumption and related disorders. Standard tests, such as serum gamma glutamyltransferase activity and erythrocyte mean cell volume, have limited sensitivity, particularly in detecting non-dependent hazardous consumption.
