The current Brazilian Ixodes fauna is composed of the following eight species: I. amarali Fonseca, 1935; I. aragaoi Fonseca, 1935; I. auritulus Neumann, 1904; I. fuscipes Koch, 1844; I. loricatus Neumann, 1899; I. luciae Sénevet, 1940; I. paranaensis Barros-Battesti, Arzua, Pichorim & Keirans, 2003; and I. schulzei Aragão & Fonseca, 1951. Further studies are needed to establish the taxonomic status of I. serrafreirei Amorim, Gazeta, Bossi & Linhares, 2003, a recently proposed species based… Expand

New records of Ixodes amarali (Acari: Ixodidae) in the Amazon biome, with description of the male
Phylogenetic analysis inferred from 16S rRNA partial sequences showed that I. amarali (male and female) from Amazon grouped with a sequence of I. loricatus from southeastern Brazil and with sequences of Ixodes luciae Sénevet, 1940, and Ixode schulzei Aragão and Fonseca, 1951, which constitute the so-called “I. lricatus group”. Validation of the taxon Ixodes aragaoi Fonseca (Acari: Ixodidae) based on morphological and molecular data.
The aim of this study was to confirm the taxonomic validity of I. aragaoi by means of redescription of adults and molecular analysis, and to agree with the synonymy of this subspecies with I. ricinus rochensis in Uruguay. Expand
Synonymy of Ixodes aragaoi with Ixodes fuscipes, and reinstatement of Ixodes spinosus (Acari: Ixodidae).
It is found that the type of I. fuscipes is found to have ridge-like auriculae, in contrast to the horn- like auricULae ofI. Expand
Description of immature stages and redescription of adults of Ixodes luciae Sénevet (Acari: Ixodidae)

The Ixodes ricinus complex (Acari: Ixodidae) in the Southern Cone of America: Ixodes pararicinus, Ixodes aragaoi, and Ixodes sp. cf. I. affinis.
The goal of this study was to clarify the taxonomic status of the Ixodes ricinus complex in the Southern Cone of America, by using morphological characters and molecular markers (mitochondrial 16SrDNA and cox1 genes) and to define the populations morphologically compatible with I. affinis until an integrative taxonomic work with further evidence redefines whether this taxon actually represents a species complex. Ticks (Ixodida: Argasidae, Ixodidae) of Brazil: Updated species checklist and taxonomic keys.
The main objectives of this study were to provide an updated list of tick species occurring in Brazil and taxonomic keys for their identification and the medico-veterinary significance of ticks occurring in this country is briefly discussed. Expand
