Summary1.Dextromethorphan (DM), a dextrorotatory nonopioid antitussive, binds to specific high-affinity sites in the central nervous system. These sites are distinct from the opioid and other known neurotransmitter receptor sites. Antitussives such as carbetapentane and caramiphen also bind to DM sites with a nanomolar affinity.2.The anticonvulsant drugs phenytoin and ropizine produce an allosteric enhancement of the binding of [3H]DM to guinea pig brain. DM, carbetapentane, and caramiphen also…

Oral dextromethorphan effectively reduced postamputation phantom limb pain, bestowing improvement in feeling and minimizing sedation in comparison with the pretreatment or placebo conditions, with no side effects.
Lack of effect of dextromethorphan on breathlessness and exercise performance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- MedicineThe European respiratory journal
- 1991
The administration of dextromethorphan (DXT), an antitussive structurally similar to codeine, would result in increased exercise performance and decreased dyspnoea in patients with COPD, without the side-effects of opiates, is concluded.
Bioevaluation of 99mTc-Pipazethate as a potential guide tracer for malignant tumor imaging.

- 2022
A biodistribution study of 99m Tc-Pip in tumored mice was performed which revealed the capability of the complex to image solid tumor as it was accumulated in the tumor with a concentration of 13% at 30min (p.i), and molecular modeling was applied for prediction of the most energetically stable structure.
Simultaneous determination of phenytoin and dextromethorphan in urine by solid-phase extraction and HPLC-DAD.

The method developed in this study allows the reliable simultaneous analysis of PHT and DXM, drugs that were never quantified together in previously reported analytical methods and could be applied in therapeutic monitoring of these drugs in human urine of epileptic patients.

Targeting Sig-1R is not expected to reduce dramatically established viral replication, but it might interfere with early steps of virus-induced host cell reprogramming, aid to slow down the course of infection, prevent the aggravation of the disease and/or allow a time window to mature a protective immune response.

Although the nature of central DM binding sites is not known, the potent interaction of several classes of centrally acting antitussives with DM sites suggests that they may be related to the mechanism of action of this drug.

The characteristics of DM binding suggest that DM sites are not a subclass of opiate receptors, and that high-affinity sites are confined almost exclusively to the microsomal fraction.

The effects of phenobarbital against tremors, clonic convulsions and tonic extension of forepaws may reflect more a general CNS-depressant effect than a specific anticonvulsive activity since neurotoxic effects (ataxia and loss of righting reflex) appear at the same doses.

Dissociation studies indicate that the two sites labeled by (-)-[3H]-desmethoxyverapamil in skeletal muscle interact in a negative heterotropic cooperative fashion, and dihydropyridines appear to slow the Dissociation of ligand from the low affinity site, whereas diltiazem accelerates the dissociation of (-)-,[3H]desmETHoxyverAPamil from the high affinity site.
