To define the capacity of glucocorticoids to regulate tissue damage associated with inflammation more clearly, we have studied the effects of dexamethasone on human alveolar macrophage secretion of both a variety of metalloproteinases and also the counter-regulatory tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP).
