Mycetomas are chronic, granulomatous, subcutaneous infections caused by either eumycetes fungi or actinomycetes bacteria, giving rise to eumycetomas and actinomycetomas, respectively. The disease is endemic in many tropical countries, and is characterized by slow progression with risks of bone and visceral involvement.
