We have examined the level of immunoglobulin gene V(D)J recombination activity in a number of cell lines derived from lymphoid or nonlymphoid lineages. The assay we employed uses extrachromosomal DNA as substrate and thereby avoids difficulties associated with the use of chromosomally integrated substrates.
