Whole-cell and single-channel inwardly-rectifying K+ currents (IK1) of early (3-day-old) and late (17-day-old) embryonic chick ventricular myocytes were compared to ascertain whether there are developmental changes in the properties of this conductance. The magnitude of the IK1 conductance in the early myocytes was small, but it was increased about five-fold in the older embryonic myocytes.
