Development of pores in water-conducting cells of the liverwortHymenophyton flabellatum (Metzgeriales, Bryophytes)

Abstract

Endoplasmic-reticulum cisternae are associated with differentiating pores in the waterconducting cells of the gametophytes ofHymenophyton. This pattern is reminiscent of that known in developing sieve pores of phloem in higher plants.
