Polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for European hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) from the sequences of inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) fragments and flanking regions. Twenty-five ISSR primers were used to generate fragments for cloning. Of the 520 unique sequences obtained, 41 contained long internal repeats (≥20 bp) with flanking sequences sufficient for primer design.
