Mature brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (mBDNF) plays a vital role in the nervous system, whereas proBDNF elicits neurodegeneration and neuronal apoptosis. Although current enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has been widely used to measure BDNF levels, it cannot differentiate mBDNF from proBDNF. As the function of proBDNF differs from mBDNF, it is necessary to establish an ELISA assay specific for the detection of mBDNF. Therefore, we aimed to establish a new mBDNF‐specific sandwich…
Investigation of Mature BDNF and proBDNF Signaling in a Rat Photothrombotic Ischemic Model
TLDR
Cerebral ischemia in rats led to the up-regulation of genes and/or proteins of BDNF, proBDNF and their processing enzymes and receptors in a time-dependent manner and it is proposed that the balance between BDNF and proBD NF and their associated proteins may play an important role in the pathogenesis and recovery from ischemic stroke.

Peripheral Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor Precursor Regulates Pain as an Inflammatory Mediator
TLDR
ProBDNF and its predominant receptor, p75 pan-neurotrophin receptor were upregulated in the nerve fibers and inflammatory cells in the local tissue in inflammatory pain.
Development of a label-free microfluidic impedimetric immunoassay for anti-SPAG16 antibody
TLDR
Determining sensitivity and specificity of antibody-antigen binding using a microfluidic ELISA immunoassay has revealed the test to be unreliable by showing no linear pattern of a dilution series of the standard and producing skewed inconsistent results.

TLDR
It is shown that proBDNF and pan neurotrophic receptor p75 were significantly upregulated in monocytes from healthy donors (HD) after lipopolysaccharide treatment, suggesting that upregulation of proBD NF in M2‐like monocytes may contribute to the proinflammatory response in the AAD.
The Level of proBDNF in Blood Lymphocytes Is Correlated with that in the Brain of Rats with Photothrombotic Ischemic Stroke
TLDR
The present study suggests that the levels of proBDNF and mBDNF in the blood lymphocytes in acute ischemic stroke reflect those in the brain at early stages, and therefore can be surrogate markers for the isChemic brain.

Serum Levels of Mature Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and Its Precursor proBDNF in Healthy Subjects
TLDR
Serum levels of proBDNF and mature BDNF are measurable using either the commercially available human proBD NF or BDNF ELISA kits, although the sensitivity of pro BDNF kit was unaccepta- bly low.
Brain‐Derived Neurotrophic Factor Levels in the Nervous System of Wild‐Type and Neurotrophin Gene Mutant Mice
TLDR
Marked differences were observed between mutants and wild‐type littermates in the PNS, but not in the CNS, suggesting that neither nerve growth factor nor neurotrophin‐3 is a unique regulator of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor levels in the newborn mouse CNS.
Decreased Serum Levels of Mature Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), but Not Its Precursor proBDNF, in Patients with Major Depressive Disorder
TLDR
It is suggested that mature BDNF may serve as a biomarker for MDD, and that MMP-9 may play a role in the pathophysiology of MDD.
Blood BDNF concentrations reflect brain-tissue BDNF levels across species.
TLDR
Preliminary data support the view that measures of blood and plasma BDNF levels reflect brain-tissue BDNF Levels, and find a significant positive correlation between frontal cortex and hippocampalBDNF levels in mice.
Upregulation of blood proBDNF and its receptors in major depression.
Mature BDNF promotes the growth of glioma cells in vitro.
TLDR
Using specific mature BDNF antibodies, it is demonstrated that the proBDNF/p75NTR pathway appears to inhibit malignant glioma cell growth and migration and suggest that the counterbalance between matureBDNF and proBD NF may regulate tumour growth.

BDNF Protein Measured by a Novel Enzyme Immunoassay in Normal Brain and after Seizure: Partial Disagreement with mRNA Levels
TLDR
The results suggest that the sustained increase of BDNF protein in these limbic structures is involved in prolonged post‐seizure phenomena, including peptidergic alterations.
