A mechanism for separating potato tubers and clods flowing on the potato harvester was developed. It is based on machine vision which distinguishes tubers and clods according to differences in reflecting ultraviolet light. Separating deflectors, operating by signals received from the vision system, were used to direct the tubers toward containers, and clods to fall apart.
