Development of Monitor System for Dry Eye Symptom

Abstract

The custom to gaze at screens of PC and smart phones has become common in daily life and it causes increase the symptom of dry eye syndrome. The purpose of this study is to develop a new monitor system to catch an eye area by using a front camera of a tablet, to visualize the opening and closing rate of the blink and to reduce eyestrain and to alert dry eye syndrome. Then, the image processing techniques are developed. The amount of tears was measured by phenol red cotton yarn. Finally, the relation of VDT works (Visual Display Terminals) and the eyestrain has been studied, in which the VDT consists of a display and a keyboard.
