Two methods of determining farm-specific lysine requirements are described. Using serial weighing and ultrasonic scanning of 40 pigs per gender at 3-week intervals throughout the entire growing-finishing phase, liveweight growth and protein and lipid accretion rates can be determined. Data are fit to two functions: a generalized nonlinear function for weight and protein mass, and a generalized exponential function for lipid mass.
