We present column density measurements of the HD molecule in the interstellar gas toward 17 Galactic stars. The values for the seven most heavily reddened sightlines, with $E(B-V) = 0.38{-}0.72$, are derived from observations with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer ( FUSE ). The other ten values are from a reanalysis of spectra obtained with Copernicus . In all cases, high-resolution ground-based observations of $\ion{K}{i}$ and/or the CH molecule were used to constrain the gas velocity…

### The Galactic deuterium abundance and dust depletion: insights from an expanded Ti/H sample

• Physics
• 2007
The primordial abundance of deuterium (D/H) yields a measure of the density of baryons in the Universe and is an important complement to determinations from cosmic microwave background (CMB)

• Physics
• 2005
We present a study of the deuterium abundance along the extended sight line toward HD 90087 with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). HD 90087 is a O9.5 III star located in the Galactic

### Hubble Space Telescope Survey of Interstellar 12CO/13CO in the Solar Neighborhood

• Physics

### VLT UVES Observations of Interstellar Molecules and Diffuse Bands in the Magellanic Clouds

• Physics
• 2006
We discuss the abundances of interstellar CH, CH+, and CN in the Magellanic Clouds, derived from spectra of seven SMC and 13 LMC stars obtained (mostly) with the VLT UVES. CH and/or CH+ have now been

### A New FUSE Survey of Interstellar HD

• Physics, Geology
• 2008
We have used archival FUSE data to complete a survey of interstellar HD in 41 lines of sight with a wide range of extinctions. This follow-up to an earlier survey was made to further assess the

### H D 3 in the diffuse interstellar medium

Three forms of solely hydrogen-bearing molecules—H2, HD and H C 3 —are observed in diffuse or optically transparent interstellar clouds. Although no comprehensive theory exists for the diffuse
