The genus Asticcacaulis, to date, comprises two species of unicellular, stalked bacteria, developing a stalk at a site which is not coincidental with the centre of the pole of the cell. Multiplication is similar to that demonstrated by the prosthecate species of the genera Caulobacter, Brevundimonas and Maricaulis. A polyphasic approach, comprising 16S rRNA gene sequencing, lipid analysis and NaCl tolerance characterizations, was used to clarify the taxonomy of the two Asticcacaulis species…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Asticcacaulis taihuensis sp. nov., a novel stalked bacterium isolated from Taihu Lake, China.
TLDR
It is concluded that strain T3-B7(T) represents a novel species of the genus Asticcacaulis, for which the name of AsticcACaulis taihuensis sp.
Reclassification and emended description of Caulobacter leidyi as Sphingomonas leidyi comb. nov., and emendation of the genus Sphingomonas.
TLDR
The dimorphic life cycle that involves a prosthecate and a flagellated stage is unique for strains DSM 4733(T) and 247 among all members of the family Sphingomonadaceae.
The hierarchical system of the ‘ Alphaproteo-bacteria ’ : description of Hyphomonadaceae fam . nov . , Xanthobacteraceae fam . nov . and Erythrobacteraceae fam
TLDR
The phylogenetic tree of 16S rRNA gene sequences established in this study may provide a sound basis for future taxonomic reconstruction of the class ‘Alphaproteobacteria’.
Phylogeny of Maricaulis Abraham et al. 1999 and proposal of Maricaulis virginensis sp. nov., M. parjimensis sp. nov., M. washingtonensis sp. nov. and M. salignorans sp. nov.
TLDR
Four novel species of marine bacteria isolated from different locations differ in their temperature and salt tolerances and can be differentiated by their polar lipids and fatty acid patterns, as well as their ITS1 and 16S rRNA gene sequences.
The hierarchical system of the 'Alphaproteobacteria': description of Hyphomonadaceae fam. nov., Xanthobacteraceae fam. nov. and Erythrobacteraceae fam. nov.
TLDR
The phylogenetic tree of 16S rRNA gene sequences established in this study may provide a sound basis for future taxonomic reconstruction of the class 'Alphaproteobacteria', including physiologically diverse species.
Asticcacaulis tiandongensis sp. nov., a new member of the genus Asticcacaulis, isolated from a cave soil sample.
TLDR
The polyphasic taxonomic characteristics indicated that strain 3.1105T represents a novel species of the genus Asticcacaulis, for which the name AsticcACaulis tiandongensis sp.
Asticcacaulis solisilvae sp. nov., isolated from forest soil.
TLDR
Based on data from the present polyphasic study, the forest soil isolate CGM1-3EN(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Asticcacaulis, for which the name AsticcACaulis solisilvae sp.
Population structure and species description of aquatic Sphingomonadaceae
TLDR
The data suggest that the incipient sexual isolation of subpopulations of freshwater Sphingomonadaceae is caused by natural selection rather than genetic drift or demographic effects, and represents a novel standard in microbial molecular systematics.

TLDR
A red-pigmented coryneform bacterium that grew on 2-ethoxyphenol and 4-methoxybenzoate as sole carbon and energy sources was isolated andylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rDNA sequences indicates that the strain clusters more closely to other rhodococci than to other gram-positive organisms with a high G + C content.
