We resolve a long-standing puzzle for the static and dynamic critical behavior of gadolinium by a combined theoretical and experimental investigation. It is shown that the spin dynamics of a ferromagnet with hcp lattice structure and a spin-spin interaction given by both exchange and dipole-dipole interaction belongs to a new dynamic universality class, model J{sup {asterisk}} . Comparing results from mode coupling theory with results from three different hyperfine interaction probes we find…
Dynamic critical behavior in models of ferromagnetic gadolinium
A numerical technique combining Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations is used for the first time to examine the complex critical dynamics of models of ferromagnetic gadolinium in which both
Spin structure of nanocrystalline gadolinium
We report on magnetic-field–dependent small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments on nanocrystalline inert-gas condensed bulk Gd, which was synthesized using the low-capturing isotope 160Gd.
Dual nature of magnetism in MnSi
The temperature dependence of the manganese magnetic moment and the spin-lattice relaxation rate measured by the muon spin relaxation technique in the magnetically ordered phase of the chiral
Evidence of metastability near the Curie temperature of polycrystalline gadolinium
The adiabatic temperature change (ΔT) during the magnetization and demagnetization processes of bulk gadolinium is directly measured for several applied magnetic fields in the temperature range 285 K
chapter 4 Spontaneous Magnetoelastic Effects in Gadolinium Compounds
Abstract The spontaneous magnetoelastic effects in Gd compounds are reviewed showing that the strain dependence of the magnetic exchange interactions leads to significant effects. These effects are
Ultrafast magnetization dynamics of lanthanide metals and alloys
In this study, the laser-induced magnetization dynamics of the lanthanide ferromagnets Gadolinium (Gd), Terbium (Tb) and their alloys is investigated using femtosecond (fs) time-resolved x-ray
Critical behaviour of heisenberg ferromagnets with dipolar interactions and uniaxial anisotropy
In any real magnetic system, weak anisotropic long-range dipole-dipole interactions are invariably present besides crystal-field interactions and dominant isotropic short-range Heisenberg
High pressure μSR studies: rare earths and related materials
After a short introduction to μSR with respect to the study of magnetic properties, followed by a brief outline of the principle of the high pressure-low temperature μSR spectrometer installed at the
Chapter 206 μSR studies of rare-earth and actinide magnetic materials
Publisher Summary The muon spin rotation/relaxation/resonance (μSR) spectroscopy has become an important tool for probing local static and dynamic magnetic properties. In over two decades a quite
Spin dynamics in magnetic materials investigated by muon spin relaxation
We present a quantitative analysis of the temperature dependence of the muon spin relaxation rate measured in simple magnets. We consider the low temperature, critical and high temperature regimes.
