Stilbenes have been shown to have cancer chemopreventive activity and to protect lipoproteins from oxidative damage. A method is described for their direct determination in different types of wine using high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. In a survey of 120 commercial wines from Portugal and France, the highest concentrations of stilbenes were found in red wines. The glucosides of resveratrol were present in higher concentrations than the free isomers. Isolation… Expand
Determination of stilbenes (delta-viniferin, trans-astringin, trans-piceid, cis- and trans-resveratrol, epsilon-viniferin) in Brazilian wines.
It is described a method for the direct determination of stilbenes in several red wines using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection and a compound isolated for the first time in wine, trans-delta-viniferin, achieved by NMR after extraction and fractionation of red wine phenolics. Trans-and cis-resveratrol concentration in wines produced in Serbia
Resveratrol, which occurs in two isomeric forms, trans and cis, is a phytoalexin with numerous pharmacological activities, such as anti-cancer, an- tiviral, neuroprotective and anti-aging. Red wineExpand
Concentrations of trans-Resveratrol and Related Stilbenes in Nova Scotia Wines
Wines from eastern Canada and wines made from French hybrid grape varieties have not been investigated and concentrations of trans-resveratrol and other stilbenes tended to be higher in winesmade from French hybrids than from vinifera varieties. Expand
Direct liquid chromatographic analysis of resveratrol derivatives and flavanonols in wines with absorbance and fluorescence detection
Abstract Wine contains a large number of polyphenols including stilbenes, flavanols and anthocyanins. Of these, stilbenes have been reported to have potential chemopreventive activities. We describeExpand
Determinationof trans-and cis-Resveratrol inSerbianCommercialWines
Resveratrol (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a phytoalexin produced by grapevines in response to fungal infection, particularly to Botrytis cinerea. It has been shown that it possess variousExpand
Hopeaphenol: the first resveratrol tetramer in wines from North Africa.
North African wines may contribute to a significant proportion of dietary intake of stilbene and astilbin, which may have health benefits and be reported for the first time in wine. Expand
The occurrence of the stilbene piceatannol in grapes
Piceatannol (trans-3,3',4,5'-tetrahydroxy-stilbene) is a natural stilbene occurring in a number of plant species, and it has been shown to have beneficial effects on human health. The compound canExpand
Trans-resveratrol in wines from the Canary Islands (Spain). Analysis by high performance liquid chromatography
Abstract Trans -resveratrol is a phytoalexin from grapes with interesting therapeutic properties. Thus considerable interest has been directed to its study. In this paper the determination ofExpand
Simple and rapid method for cis- and trans-resveratrol and piceid isomers determination in wine by high-performance liquid chromatography using chromolith columns.
A simple and rapid HPLC method has been developed for simultaneous determination of the four resveratrol forms in a Grenache wine from Châteauneuf du Pape with reliable separations at low pressure with a short analysis time. Expand
Grapevine Stilbenes and Their Biological Effects
Vine and wine are an abundant source of polyphenolic compounds, including mainly flavonoids and stilbenes. The latter appear to constitute a large class of compounds, monomers and oligomers (dimers,Expand
