BACKGROUND We studied electron microscopy (EM) as an appropriate test system for the detection of polyomavirus in urine samples from bone marrow transplant patients. METHODS We evaluated direct EM, ultracentrifugation (UC) before EM, and solid-phase immuno-EM (SPIEM).
