We discuss the implementation of the {open_quotes}direct{close_quotes} maximal center gauge (a gauge which maximizes the lattice average of the squared-modulus of the trace of link variables), and its use in identifying Z{sub 2} center vortices in Yang-Mills vacuum configurations generated by lattice Monte Carlo calculations. We find that center vortices identified in the vacuum state account for the full asymptotic string tension. Scaling of vortex densities with lattice coupling, change in…

We study the dependence of the center-projected string tension on both the lattice size, and the number of gauge copies used for maximal center gauge fixing. We show that a recent finding of…

In this review, we discuss the present status of the description of confining flux tubes in SU(N) pure Yang–Mills theory in terms of ensembles of percolating center vortices. This is based on three…

The center vortex model of quantum chromodynamic states that vortices, closed color-magnetic flux, percolate the vacuum. Vortices are seen as the relevant excitations of the vacuum, causing…

We argue that in the infrared regime of continuum Yang-Mills theory, the possibility of a mass gap in the charged sector is closely associated with the center vortex sector. The analysis of the…

By means of lattice calculations, center vortices have been established as the infrared dominant gauge field configurations of Yang–Mills theory. In this work, we investigate an ensemble of center…
Vortex structures in pure SU ( 3 ) lattice gauge theory
- Physics

The structures of confining vortices which underlie pure SU(3) Yang-Mills theory are studied by means of lattice gauge theory. Vortices and Z3 monopoles are defined as dynamical degrees of freedom of…
