We discuss the implementation of the {open_quotes}direct{close_quotes} maximal center gauge (a gauge which maximizes the lattice average of the squared-modulus of the trace of link variables), and its use in identifying Z{sub 2} center vortices in Yang-Mills vacuum configurations generated by lattice Monte Carlo calculations. We find that center vortices identified in the vacuum state account for the full asymptotic string tension. Scaling of vortex densities with lattice coupling, change in…
P-vortices, gauge copies, and lattice size
We study the dependence of the center-projected string tension on both the lattice size, and the number of gauge copies used for maximal center gauge fixing. We show that a recent finding of
From Center-Vortex Ensembles to the Confining Flux Tube
In this review, we discuss the present status of the description of confining flux tubes in SU(N) pure Yang–Mills theory in terms of ensembles of percolating center vortices. This is based on three
Improving Center Vortex Detection by Usage of Center Regions as Guidance for the Direct Maximal Center Gauge
The center vortex model of quantum chromodynamic states that vortices, closed color-magnetic flux, percolate the vacuum. Vortices are seen as the relevant excitations of the vacuum, causing
Center vortices as sources of Abelian dominance in pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory
We argue that in the infrared regime of continuum Yang-Mills theory, the possibility of a mass gap in the charged sector is closely associated with the center vortex sector. The analysis of the
Effective theory of the D = 3 center vortex ensemble
By means of lattice calculations, center vortices have been established as the infrared dominant gauge field configurations of Yang–Mills theory. In this work, we investigate an ensemble of center
Vortex structures in pure SU ( 3 ) lattice gauge theory
The structures of confining vortices which underlie pure SU(3) Yang-Mills theory are studied by means of lattice gauge theory. Vortices and Z3 monopoles are defined as dynamical degrees of freedom of

Recent Developments in Gauge Theories
Almost all theories of fundamental interactions are nowadays based on the gauge concept. Starting with the historical example of quantum electrodynamics, we have been led to the successful unified
